Hi, I'm Viktor Kreschenski. I build software and run it in the cloud, with over a decade of experience on complex engineering systems. I work both ends of that sentence.
What I'm working on
At Capgemini Engineering in Munich I work on microservices backends running on AWS via Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and Terraform, with CI/CD throughout, and on the deployment and platform side that keeps them running. Before that I spent years on Qt and PyQt tooling in the automotive sector. Alongside all of it I take freelance work through UpWork.
I also design and ship my own products end to end. Most of what I write about on this blog comes out of that.
Technical expertise
Building it. I write Python, C++, JavaScript, R and Bash, with Qt and PyQt, Django, Flask and FastAPI. That covers backends and APIs, desktop tooling, dashboards, and the data and machine-learning work that tends to come attached. I also work with dataspace technology: Eclipse Dataspace Connector, Tractus-X and AAS digital twins.
Running it. AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm and Terraform, with release pipelines on GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure Pipelines and AWS CDK.
I'm a proponent of open source; my projects and contributions are on my GitHub profile.
Background
Before the cloud work I spent years in autonomous driving: sensor simulation and validation, and maintaining the Open Simulation Interface and its tooling. I hold a Master's degree in Mechatronics and Information Technology from the Technical University of Munich, where my research sat at the intersection of machine learning and industrial engineering:
- Data-driven fault diagnosis: applying ML to unstructured sensor data from PLCs.
- Predictive maintenance: root-cause analysis tools for automated production systems.
Beyond the code
When I'm not at my desk, I'm likely immersed in a detective, historical, or science-fiction novel. I also have a passion for traveling to off-the-beaten-path destinations that offer a unique perspective on the world.
